Dentist visit!!

** for some reason this didn't publish when I made it in May so here it is! Haha

Today was the day. I pushed it back long enough and finally got Dylan her first dentist appointment! The place we went is very cool. There are lots of wild animal jumping from the walls, ceilings and floors. They had video games and funny chairs and a big aquarium with super pretty fish. We waited a while and played, she met a new friend. They finally called her name and of course she didn't want to stop playing so that was the first step. She was so good and got on the scale and weighed (29.8 lbs) and stood against the wall to get her height (34 inches). She even stood against the wall in the room for them to take her picture. She took Minnie Mouse with her so of course Mickey Mouse was playing on the cool tv on the ceiling. She didn't want to lay on the big chair or use the headphones but wanted to talk about Mickey. The hygienist was so nice and gave her a little duckie to take home. She told us what all would happen and we practiced our best smile. The dentist finally arrived. She thought she liked her until... She pulled out those rubber gloves. The dentist did a full check on Minnie Mouse, who had perfect teeth, and then it was her turn! "No, no, NO!"... Then she got the little mirror and put it in mommas mouth. Her turn?? No way!! In the end we had to hold her down kicking in screaming which worked well for the exam. And after that 30 seconds, she was fine! Ha. She got a little toy and a cool pink toothbrush. Back in 6 months...

The First Day of School!

It was inevitable that this day would come. After spending every waking hour almost with this tiny human I never dreamed she would be starting school someday, especially this soon! She is still my little tiny baby! Well, maybe not my tiny baby because everyone knows how terrible that was...
But for those of you that know my little tiny baby, you know that her lifelong goal is to know where mama is every second of the day. Want to drop her off at the church nursery for an hour so you can actually listen to the service? Don't be crazy! Want her to have a fun time with her friends in moms group for two hours while you are in the other room? I don't think so! So while it would be nice to keep her my tiny baby she has to learn that sometimes mama has to leave and will soon come back.

We got her all excited about it. She got a new lunch box and new books about school. She got a cute outfit and we talked about all the fun she would have while there. It was going to be the best day ever!! I got her out of bed at 7am which is way early for my night owl. It was still dark and I told her she had to get up to go to school. She very sleepily rolled out of bed and went to the bathroom and was soon a talkative mess about school. We got her all dressed and ready!

She actually looked at the camera, smiled, and posed! Which is so not like her these days.

She was so excited. She picked out her own shoes because the ones I had picked out just didn't float her boat and she couldn't wait to get in the car to go!

We pulled up, she put her coat on, made sure she had her back pack and jumped out of the car. Then the playground... Oh that playground... We have to pass it to go through the doors. And she had a complete freak out! Because what does any kid want to do at 8am? Slide, of course!! I finally got her calmed down and explained to her we could only access the playground from inside the building (sounded like a legit thing). So we went in and she instantly started crying saying "I just wanna go home and see daddy"... The saddest thing ever! I got her to calm down and left as I heard her freaking out all the way to the door.
But... She made it! They said they would call me if she was too upset and they never called. I was there promptly 5 minutes early to pick her up and there she sat with her new friends and her lunch. She couldn't wait to get her stuff and hit the door. She said she wanted to come back on Thursday so we will see...

What's New and Expected!

It has been some time since I've updated this thing. Being a mom of a 2 year old is exhausting sometimes! We have had a summer chock full of fun and vacations on every turn. We received some amazing news recently and I thought it was the perfect time to update the blog... And stick to it! We are expecting baby number two!

This is the first positive we finally got out of many negatives. I was sure I was pregnant for so long! Haha.
Got to the doctor and had my ultrasound and the due date is set for May 13th which makes me about 9.5 weeks now.

Hi baby!! It was just waving at me. Dylan was so good the whole time and watched the baby on the tv. She is still undecided right now if she is excited. Some days she is and then other days she says "no baby, I'm the baby!" It should be interesting I'm sure.

It has been a very different pregnancy than Dylan. Food is the last thing I want right now and I'm so tired. Hoping I start to perk up soon! I am not sure it has really sunk in yet so I'm still waiting on that to happen... Can't wait to see what's in store for round two!!

Bob said baby number two always gets the short end of the stick but I plan on doing all the great pictures I did with Dylan!! So stay tuned...

Dylan turns 2?!?!

Whoa!! When did that happen?? This insanely crazy baby we have turned two on Sunday!! It was a fun party, Minnie Mouse themed, of course. You know, she doesn't even watch cartoons anymore, it is only music on TV. She loves Minnie but has no interest of watching her on TV. She got a giant Minnie Mouse for her birthday and now she must sleep with the giant one and the regular one…plus all the other stuffed animals she owns. I am sure that I went way too far out for a 2 year old party but she had a good time even if no one showed up.

She was bringing all of her gifts over to the floor with daddy and then giving her Minnie balloon a kiss. She thought it was Minnie's birthday! So sweet!

So… at 2… she is weighing in around 26 lbs and per her new growth chart mommy made her, she is 32 inches. She is wearing 24 month clothes but not wuite 2T. She loves music and dancing, yogurt, milk, pasta, bath time, bubbles, the iPad, pretty bows. She still naps during the day and sleeps pretty well at night. She has a temper like none other. She thinks that things should happen exactly the way she wants them to. She loves to be pretty and wear bows and brush her hair. She has just suddenly gotten to where she wants to watch shows on the iPad which is nice but she wants me to do it with her. She now says she wants to sit in my lap so that is her usual move. She knows the word no very well but if the answer is yes, she makes a very exaggerated excited face so you know that she wants it.
We plan on her starting preschool in the fall and possibly dance over the summer. So many fun things planned. Cannot wait for this year!!

New Year = New Things to Come

Can't believe it's 2015!! Bob was just saying he remembers watching "Back to the Future" and 2015 seemed like a lifetime!! We are here... And yet, no flying cars or hover boards! Man!!
I think things in the Brooks household can only get better!! Bob finally made it home around 9pm on NYE so we could pop some champagne and wait for our countdown. Dylan loved the champagne. I let her smell it where the bubbles tickle her nose and she thought it was the best!

I recently ran across this article about how it takes 66 days to really change something in your life... 66 days!! What?? I can do that right?

So I've decided to set goals for myself. I don't want to call it resolution because that always seems like too much pressure!! So here it is...

1. Read the bible and pray everyday!! It seems like things get so busy with life that I forget the most important things! I started a bible study last month (that I haven't finished) on the book "Before Amen" by Max Lucado. If you haven't read it, please do, it's awesome! It talks all about prayer and is very powerful yet an easy read. Did you know in Matthew 21:22 God says, "if you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer"... That's pretty powerful!! All you have to do is believe God can and will do it and He will! Done!! So this one is going to seem dumb to not stick to.

2. Work harder on my amazing business with Rodan + Fields and watch it grow! I love this opportunity I have and have almost finished my first year and I'm really starting to see how much potential it can have so I'm working harder and making sure everyone realizes the opportunity! If you are curious if the opportunity is right for you, let me know!

3. Exercising daily!! I have started doing just simple yoga the last few days and it really makes my bones and muscles feel better. I am hoping to gradually work up to walking daily and then doing some of these millions of exercise videos that I hoard. Dylan has gotten to where she thinks it's funny and even tries to do the yoga poses with me!

4. Drinking water everyday! I'm not sure what happened that I don't do this. I am so thirsty all the time but never make time for myself to drink. So crazy of me!! Have my giant cup in front of me know and I'm ready!!

5. To be an awesome wife and momma. There is so many things I have planned for this year... Preschool, dance classes, etc. so time management and dealing with separation anxiety (mine) are a must!! Just so many exciting things to look forward to I can't wait!

So happy New Years from us to you!! Hoping it lives up to expectations!
And, everyone needs to keep me on my toes with all of these things for the next 66 days!!

OH Santa Baby!

Love this time of year but I am secretly glad it is over. My house is still a disaster 4 days later. I keep cleaning up stuff and this little human keeps coming behind me and dragging it back out. We have definitely played with EVERYTHING more than once since Christmas. She loves it and loved Christmas.
We had a fun Christmas Eve. Grammy and Grumpy came to stay and we went to Christmas Eve service at church. It was nice and she had a fun time. Unfortunately daddy couldn't get off work in time but he picked up a pizza and had it ready when we got home.

We opened Christmas stockings, which she was not thrilled about, and we made Christmas cookies for Santa.

She did like her minnie mouse PJs
She had such a fun time ripping into gifts on her first Christmas but she was over the moon excited about gifts this year. For some reason I was able to find wrapping paper that does not rip…I don't think I have ever seen that before but she wasn't a fan. She had to help everyone open their gifts! There was definitely no stopping her! I am not sure about you but I seriously hate bows on gifts…you can't stack packages without them getting squashed or ripped off and when you are storing them they also get squashed. I have done without bows the last couple of years and I love it…but I do happen to wait until the last minute to finish my gift tags so some go without.

The gold ones with the crappy tied bows were from santa…it doesn't matter what his gifts look like, right? Ha!

This is what missy got to see when she woke up…I was seriously up at 7:30 because I was so excited. I had the kitchen clean and coffee made and we just waited…dad finally woke her up at 8:30 because we seriously could not wait anymore! I am not sure she knew what she was looking at when she came in…she was like yeah there is the tree just like everyday… but once we started giving her gifts she was so excited!

She got lots of fun gifts but her favorite was play makeup, especially the lip gloss, and her second favorite was her dyson vacuum. She has been following me around this evening vacuuming with me. It is so cute!!
Here are just a few pics of Christmas morning.

She got her very own iPad from Grammy and Grumpy two days after she dropped daddys on the ground and busted it… she wasn't overly impressed, I think she thought we just wrapped the iPad up to give it to her. Ha! I would definitely say this was a Christmas for the books. Now the clean up… and the NEW YEAR! I can't wait to see what it holds!

Merry Christmas From the Brooks!

So This is Christmas...

I have seriously had this song stuck in my head all day…have you ever really listened to the lyrics?? It is so meaningful as to what Christmas really is or should be…

"So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new ones just begun…"

I am not really sure what I have done this year… I feel like I have been a great momma and hoping that I have been an awesome wife and an amazing daughter while I was at it. An amazing Christian seems like a stretch…but I try! I was so overcome by all that God has given us at the candlelight service at church last night. It really is amazing all the things God has done for us and really makes you think that you may not be living up to the standard! We also watched the new "Left Behind" movie today…if you haven't read the books, please do! The movie only touches on it but it really takes you through the end of times so much easier that the Bible which is sometimes a little overwhelming. I find it a blessing everyday to have all the amazing people in my life in which God has created for me and I cannot wait to see how the rest of it will go.

Dylan Mackenzie had an outstanding Christmas this year. Bob said this was apparently what being an only child at Christmas is like…it kind of is! Ha! She had so much fun and just really loved being around her family all day and doing whatever she wanted…we stayed in Pjs all day, drove around in the car to look at lights, at junk food, and stayed up way past her bedtime.

"…And so this is Christmas
For the weak and the strong
For rich and the poor ones
the world is so wrong…"

I have been seeing all of these videos circulating lately about all of these homeless people that do wonderful things… I am hoping I can teach Dylan that these are real people too and that they need help as much as the next person and that we need to be kind and giving. I cannot tell you how happy it made  me to know that I was able to help a friend this year, her 3 year old has leukemia and and she has chemo, good days, bad days, had to move from her family for her husband to be able to keep his job and insurance, in and out of the doctor… I just cannot even imagine! It has been almost a year of fighting and she was so happy when I told her I wanted to help her for Christmas. It really brought joy to my heart. This is what Christmas is all about, giving to others as God gave to us.

"…And so happy Christmas
for the black and the white
for the yellow and red ones
Lets stop all the fight…"

Seems so very true of crazy things happening in the world right now, the hate and sorrow right here at Christmas. So tonight, please count your blessings and pray for a kinder, gentler world.

I saw these wise words of wisdom form the Grinch of all people and thought I would share.

Christmas celebrations and pictures to come soon!
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
